Jeremy’s Bassi Bloomfield Randlocross Ripper (50.5cm)

I’ve always been drawn to the fixed gear bicycle. The clean lines, unique pedalling experience, and homage to cycling’s beginnings is important to me as a cycling enthusiast. I think it’s really strange when someone gets really excited about cycling, especially as a professional, and doesn’t explore its roots and beginnings. That’s not to say that there’s a right or wrong way to enjoy cycling, but more that it just feels like the beginning is the logical place to go. It’s really interesting to me how the randonneuring and ultra-endurance disciplines that we know it today are much more similar to the first 25 years of the Tour De France and other Grand Tours than people realize. I don’t have bad things to say about modern road cycling or modern bikes but I do think that by understanding the history of the bicycle, and especially during these days of gravel and the ‘all-road bike,’ you can really see that cycling is falling back into utility and freedom. I think this is very important. However you feel about that, there is still something so classic and so essential about the wide-tire fixed gear and while everyone’s racing off to new hyper-modern standards for extremely marginal gains, I’m keen to explore the roots of cycling through this fixed gear randonneuring bike. If that’s something that makes sense to you then I strongly recommend a wide tire fixed gear, singlespeed, or any sincerely rando-inspired bike. I guarantee the experience will shine a new light on cycling for you and bring you great joy with each mile.

Happy pedalling!
