Jeremy’s Velo Orange Neutrino (L)

Jeremy works at Crows as our webstore, media, and photography guy and runs pretty much everything digital. If you follow us on Instagram and get a comment response, or start to chat with us online, he’s who you’re talking to! This is Jeremy’s new bikepacking setup and it’s a pretty special mini velo if we do say so ourselves. For those who aren’t familiar, a mini velo is designed to ride as predictably and true to a standard wheel sized bicycle as possible while maintaining a smaller overall footprint. If you’ve never seen one before, that’s not too surprising. Mini velos are a lot more popular in parts of Asia like China, Japan, South Korea, etc, where metroplitan areas are especially dense and storage is at a premium. Mini velos are also ideal for travel. In Japan, using a mini velo forfeits the need to rinko your bike (take it apart to fit in a special bag approved for trains,) and the Velo Orange Neutrino (size Small and Large,) fits into a standard checked bag on almost all airlines, eliminating oversized baggage fees! How sweet is that?! The Neutrino is a bit of an outlier in the mini velo world with it’s huge tire clearances (2.6” in the front, 2.4” in the back,) disc brake compatibility, and it even has an adjustable dropout for different drivetrain setups. Jeremy’s build takes advantage of these traits to run a Rohloff 14 speed internal gear hub, a 2.4” front and 2.3” rear tire, hydraulic disc brakes, and he even did some stealth dynamo routing through the purge holes in the fork. We did a custom modification on the Rohloff OEM2 plate to make it cleanly without any adapters too. We’re working with Velo Orange on a tutorial of how we do it, so check that out as soon as it’s available. Some final highlights on this build include the limited edition Chris King Bourbon Nothreadset, OG Crust fillet brazed tall-stack stem, Blue Lug brass water bottle bolts, headset spacers, and Koma rear light, Velocity Cliffhanger tubeless ready 20” rims, White Industries square taper cranks, and the always elegant Carradice Bagman rear bag support. If you’re interested in getting a mini velo build of your own we stock this frameset and whether you want it with or without the 14 speed German wonder, we’re happy to help!
