Servicing E-Bikes
We have formally introduced some rules about how we service e-bikes.
For e-bikes with Shimano Steps, Bosch, or Mahle Electric Assist systems, we can service everything on your bike including the electrical components. Our service team maintains up to date manufacturer certifications for these systems, and we have full diagnostics, parts, and warranty support at our disposal. We can modify and upgrade these bikes to whatever you need provided the changes are supported by the manufacturers. These are what we would consider Bikes from Supported Manufacturers.
ALL other e-bikes and e-mobility devices are considered Bikes from Unsupported Manufacturers, and we cannot service them unless we can demonstrate that the bike meets safety criteria. If the bike meets the minimum safety criteria, we can only service the standard bicycle components on them within reason. We cannot service or upgrade your motor, controller, battery, throttle, etc…, nor can we install DIY aftermarket e-bike kits. Additionally, the work we do on the standard bicycle components may in some cases be limited by format of bike itself. Examples of limitations include but are not limited to:
If your hub motor does not have a plug that can be removed to fully remove the wheel from the bike, we will not service it in any way. Our team cannot safely service a wheel if we cannot fully remove it from the bike.
We require all Unsupported Manufacturer e-bikes to have their battery removed if the bike is staying with us for any length of time. If the battery cannot be removed, we cannot service the bike outside of quick adjustments that can be completed on the spot IF our team has the capacity. On a case by case basis, certain bikes with properly certified batteries may be exempt from this requirement, but this is at the discretion of our Sr Service team.
If we believe the bike has critical safety issues, either related or unrelated to the motor system, we cannot service it unless the service includes resolution of said issue. If the issue is related to the motor system, we cannot work on the bike.
